Key underlying metabolic pathologies are thought to play a role in bipolar disorder (BD), including dysfunctions energy metabolism. This review highlights mechanisms of BD and potential therapeutic effects low carbohydrate ketogenic diet (KD) on mood symptoms. Based its robust effectiveness treating epilepsy, the KD has garnered recent interest application for disorders as it may imitate pharmacological stabilizers, commonly prescribed agents treatment both amongst other stabilizing neural networks brain.
